Exceptional Faculty

The Clover Park Technical College Foundation is pleased to participate in recognizing exceptional faculty at CPTC. This particular award is one way that excellence in teaching can be recognized and encouraged. Highlights from our 2008 Foundation Exceptional Faculty Award Recipients:

Chandra Miller- Starks, Faculty Counselor
Chandra was nominated by one of her peers for her incredible work and expertise in providing counseling to students who are experiencing personal, and life stressors that are impacting their educational goals. Chandra is a member of many professional organizations and plans to enhance and grow workshops for students on campus and continue her coursework through an online certificate program in College Counseling from UCLA.

Andy Fritz, Environmental Science and Technology Instructor
Andy’s commitment to his industry, students, community, and college are evident in his work and community involvement. Andy established a scholarship to support students in Environmental Science and has played a big role in securing and maintaining grant funding essential to keeping students in school. He plans to utilize the funds to take three of his students to a regional conference focused on Ecological Restoration.

Brint Sagle, Early Care and Education Instructor
Brint has devoted his career to early childhood and has great respect locally and throughout the Nation as an advocate for children and families. He plans to initiate an Early Care and Education student organization with a strong service and professional component. One colleague stated, “Brint is more than an exemplary faculty member and deserves to be recognized not only for his successes as an educator and mentor but for how he goes above and beyond every moment of every day.”

Dorene Demars, Mechanical Engineering Design Instructor
Dorene grew her program from seven students in 2006 to now, 18 students. She expects her students to succeed and actively participates in outreach events and community activities to promote access to higher education. Dorene is involved in countless community and professional organizations and received not one but two nominations from her colleagues for the Exceptional Faculty Award. Dorene plans to utilize the funds to attend a National Conference focused on industry leading software to support her program.
